Southern tier ride
By james lombard - (contact)

Introduction: Ride Across America for St. Bernard Parish

Wednesday April 7, 2010

As some of you already know, myself and good friend Gary Hill will be doing the southern-tier ride across America beginning the 23rd of this month... leaving from San Diego and crossing the California, Arizona, and New Mexico deserts before entering Texas (El Paso to Houston). We then cross Louisiana and Alabama before finishing in St. Augustine Florida....we generally follow route 10, and plan to allow about two months for the trip. We will be camping most of the way and grabbing meals on the fly. I will leave Half Moon Bay on the 15Th and ride down the coast to San Diego arriving the 22ND to meet up with Gary for the start. Anyone that would like to join us for any portion of the ride is certainly welcome. I will be doing a periodic journal here, and also on my facebook wall. For me, this is the adventure of a lifetime....but it is also an adventure with a purpose. Along the way we will stop in New Orleans. Both Gary & I have visited there many times on business and enjoyed the warm hospitality of this great city. This time we would like to give back, so we will be making a donation to assist the families of the St. Bernard Parish who are still struggling (almost 5 years after the devastation of Katrina) to get their lives back together. We are working with the Community Center of St. Bernard (www.ccstb.org), and we encourage all to visit their web site. If their aid to the community resonates with you as it did with us, then please support our ride by making a donation of any size...just look for the picture of Gary and myself on their web page! Watch for updates as our trip gets underway. Don't try to email me once the ride starts, because I will be too busy pushing the pedals!......cheers, and keep the rubber side down. Jim & Gary
