A tour of the Missouri KATY Trail
By Troy Ratliff - (contact)
Tuesday April 13, 2004, 32 miles (51 km) - Total so far:
249 miles (401 km)
Got up early, and since there was nothing open in Tebbetts, biked 10 miles to Mokane and had breakfast with a group of retired farmers at a general store. All the talk was about the weather, farming, and fishing. Took my time biking on to Hermann. Had another nice day and the tailwind continued. The dogwood trees are in full bloom and the trail is beginning to show signs of spring. You have to leave the KATY and cross over the Missouri on a two lane bridge to get to the town, but I managed this without incident. My car was where I left it four days earlier, none the worse for wear. I have to go back to Columbia in July and it's my goal to finish the final 50 miles of the trail to St. Charles then, and maybe spend some time visiting the wineries in Hermann. I'll add to this journal at that time.
