Day 27: Lake Almanor to Graeagle

Friday July 22, 2011, 65 miles (105 km) - Total so far: 1,379 miles (2,219 km)

Posted via email Sat Jul 23 06:44:01 2011 PDT

Today was hot and sunny. We stopped in Greenville to use the library internet. At a kayak rental place, someone told us (as we cycled by) to see Indian Falls, and we did; they were close to the road and scenic. The Indian Creek area between Greenville and Quincy is very scenic, with steep cliffs and valleys, but the roads were narrow and the traffic heavy, particularly with logging trucks. When we got to Quincy, the roads were fairly straight with decent shoulders, but by then there were no logging trucks. In Quincy, Kai and I missed each other. He stopped at the Chevron to get something to drink and I didn't see his bike; I went on to the Safeway shopping center and ate lunch at a cafe and watched the road, but didn't see him. We reconnected just before the turn off into Graegle.

We are staying at the Movin' West RV park, which has a nice spot for tents, has the nicest bathrooms/showers at any campground I've ever seen (bathmats!) and gives a discount for users of Adventure Cycling maps. Since we had not shopped and didn't want to use the remaining freeze dried food, we walked about half a mile to a restaurant, which was pretty good.
