At 75 I've ridden Bikes for 40 years, discovered recumbent trikes a few years ago and discovered bicycle touring about a year ago. Recumbent trikes are addictive. I have five and want a tandem. There's a used tandem for sale on the East coast but the owner isn't willing to ship it to California. I'm not willing to part with what a new one costs - especially since I just paid $1500 more than I paid for a new 1947 Oldsmobile, for my HP Velotechnik Scorpion :-).
I spent today packing the trike for an overnight that climbs to over 7000' getting to the campground. If I get a picture of it loaded, I'll post it here. (4th Picture - Both trikes loaded.) There're 27 Items with 14 sub-items on the packing list. Three journals at the bottom. I'm jealous of Slug-on-a-bent and his just completed San Diego-St Augustine tour. I tell people I can't think of a more wonderful life than waking up in a tent where you have never been before, fixing breakfast and loading the trike and then riding where you have never been before (at least slow enough to see anything) knowing you will camp SOMEWHERE tonight where you have never been before. They all look at me like I am crazy. Not discovering bicycle touring before age 73, I'm still going to tour. Only God knows how far. HE knew and I toured! See journals below.
