Bio: I am a South African now living in New Zealand, where Elaine and I have a small Cottage Garden Nursery. We have two children and four grand children also living here. I would once have been called a farmer by some and a cyclist by others. As a cyclist I could never quite make up my mind whether I was a track cyclist or a cycle tourist but I managed to do both fairly successfully. Farming became my way of life and then for a time there was no room for cycling or anything else. We lived on a very bad farm road and this was before mountain bikes were invented. In 1975 I was introduced to sailing and had an ocean going yacht built and named 'Glentworth Girl'after my farm Glentworth. I learned to sail her and experienced the highest highs and lowest lows one could ever expect in life, until 1984 when I sold her.I started cycling again in 1982 as the sailing wasn't going anywhere. Now people think of me as that crazy old guy that rides a bike. I also love running and have done duathlons, luckily representing South Africa at World Championships in 1996 and 1997 and cycle toured at seventy three.I toured August/September 2001 and again in 2002 in Queensland and N.S.W Australia. My first tour was in South Africa when I was twenty one. Since then I have toured in Europe,England Scotland and Ireland and New Zealand, some of the times with my wife Elaine. I have since added other interests like philosophy, particularly history of science and molecular biology which everyone should be on first name terms with. Its like learning about the earth not being flat. I still dream of a really long tour but don't hold your breath, I think time has run out.
